Back from Provence with lots of vintage baskets, wine (like we need more Rosé!); back to a rainy garden, tonnes of homegrown potatoes and an overgrown potager. Cool air in the morning, a whisper of autumn coming. I’m planning on making the most of August, I intend to spend as many moments with my 6 year old as possible, the magical ‘little person’ years are so fleeting. My new favourite spot in the house. My very old dresser (found in my first barn in the Périgord) stacked with books, jewellery to be slung on for the day, pictures of my family and my collection of English history books, gave to me by my mum. She told me my gran used to read them, apparently she loved the gory bits … I imagine her, perched in her blue skirt, simple slip top with a sherry, flicking through the pages on a Sunday. It’s a fleeting memory, not sure how much is real or pieced together from pictures. But I love the image nevertheless xx happy Monday all

I read somewhere the other day, that when you actually think about it, there are only so many springs you will see in your lifetime. Something I had never really considered, I think that now I am in my 50th year, there is a realisation that, if l’m lucky I might only see another 50 more. So I captured this fine spring morning, with golden light pouring into my home. Yes the fireplace needs the tiling, the paintwork on the shutters really needs doing, and the stucco is basically falling off. But, with the warm spring sunshine dappling all around it’s lovely enough for me x

Sorting out old photos tonight and reminiscing over our first house in France. It was a tiny Bergerie in the Périgord. I felt so grown up, I had land, beams, wooden floors. For someone who has spent years living in little London flats and cramped Parisian apartments, I felt like I was living in a romantic French fantasy of country life. My own stone house … I think I fell in love with France back then, life was easy, and cheap! I’m not that young woman now and sometimes miss my little French house. It’s nice to look back sometimes. However, I wouldn’t go back, this white house may be a bit too big and cold most of the time, the cavernous barn is about to have work done to stop it falling down, my floors are stone, so wonderfully cool in summer and icy in winter, one of my chimneys is basically needs completely rebuilding. But this is now my home xxx

I love living in Bourgogne… the sweeping landscapes, grand houses, wonderful wine and gastronome, the crisp autumns, snowy winters, vibrant springs and hot hazy summers. My house is my sanctuary … but! June was a wash out, normally it’s pool & Rose time! But this year … so much rain!!! … so what is the best bit about living in France? In this case? The joy of driving 5 hours south to Provence … ☀️☀️☀️💜💜🫒☀️🥰🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷

My quiet Saturday night kitchen … house sleeping, things tidied away, surfaces wiped, only the ticking of the clock and low hum of the boiler … these moments of calm restore us, enable us to feel rejuvenated for the day ahead. I think the quiet tidy evening kitchen maybe the sanctuary of many mums … sitting in peace, knowing the ones you love are tucked up safe … whilst you finish your tea, coco, wine! Mildly smelling of washing up liquid and vim 😂😘❤️ here’s to all the mummy’s taking a pause xxxx

Every night from school my 4 year old, who adores Julia Donaldson books, asks me to draw the characters … crayons are pushed into my hands, paper is arranged in front of me, and we spend the evening drawing. They are quick little doodles, occasionally he will have a go himself, but he much prefers art directing what I should draw and how it should look. Anything which does not make the grade is dismissed, the winners are cut out and treasured for a little while. I have joined his ‘art club’ he is my instructor and I am the student xxx 🤩😂😘🤗🎨🎨🎨🖌️🖌️🖌️🖌️sometimes you don’t need much in life, crayons, some paper and love ❤️
